St. Vincent de Paul Parish is hiring a part-time Parish Religious Education Program (PRE) Coordinator and a full-time Director of Ministry and Discipleship. Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) Coordinator

Title:                       PREP Coordinator

Reports to:           Pastor and Director of Ministry & Discipleship

Status/Class:       Part-time; Exempt

Job Description

The part-time position of Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Pastor/Parochial Administrator along with the Director of Ministry and Discipleship (DMD) in overseeing the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP).

Key Responsibility Areas

      • Oversee the Parish Religious Education (PREP) program
        • Oversee the operation of the Parish Religious Education Program from Grade Level 1 through Grade Level 6, in conformity with the guidelines of the Office for Catechetical Formation of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia using various methods:
          • Weekly Traditional Program: meets one day a week for an hour and a half or so
          • Family Catechesis: meets once a month, then families assist in learning the material together while attending additional events and liturgies throughout the year
          • Summer Catechesis: meets for a one-week intensive program in the summer, then families attend various events and liturgies during the year
        • Provide access and inclusion for children with special learning needs.
        • Implement Archdiocesan policies and procedures per the directives from the Office for Catechetical Formation.
        • Oversee PREP registration, the recruitment of an adequate number of qualified catechists along with handling classroom assignments.

            • Ensure, in collaboration with the Safe Environment Coordinator, that the Safe Environment requirements, policies, and mandates for Parish Religious Education volunteers are in compliance with the Office for Child and Youth Protection.

          • Ensure that Students have adequate Sacramental Preparation
            • Work with the Pastor and the DMD to schedule dates for Sacraments such as First Penance, First Holy Communion, and proposing dates for Confirmation to the Bishop’s Office.

                • Schedule and coordinate Sacramental Meetings for parents of school-age candidates for the Sacraments of First Penance, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

              • Coordinate retreat days for students preparing for First Communion and Confirmation.
                • Work with the Pastor and Director of Liturgy to prepare the liturgy for First Penance, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
                • Schedule Advent and Lenten Penance Services with the opportunity for individual confessions for the Parish Religious Education children.

                    • Create and oversee catechetical plans for older baptized Catholic children or teens who seek the reception of First Penance, First Holy Communion, and/or Confirmation.

                • Assist in the Parish Office as needed
                      • Whenever needed, be available to assist in the Parish Office with Parishioner services including answering phone calls & fulfilling Mass Intentions.

                Required Abilities, Education, and Experience

                    • A Theology or Religious Education Degree/Certification is preferred, but not necessary.

                    • Prior experience working in a Catholic parish, PREP/CCD, or school setting, and an understanding of the dynamics of parish life and the relationship of a parish to the Archdiocese is a plus.

                    • A practicing Catholic in good standing and willing to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church.

                  Other Qualifications

                      • Possesses the heart of a Missionary Disciple.

                      • Possesses excellent interpersonal communication (listening and speaking), written skills (drafting, proofreading, and editing), and supervisory skills.

                      • Displays a professional and friendly persona.

                      • Ability to maintain confidentiality and help cultivate a culture of trust.

                      • Ability to develop and maintain a budget for programming.

                      • Prioritize workflow, display flexibility, and use considerable independent judgment.

                      • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, along with the willingness to learn other online platforms used by the Parish (ie: MinistryPlatform, Flocknote, and the like).

                    Compensation Information

                        • Employment will be dependent upon successful completion of all required personal background checks and legally mandated trainings.

                        • The position requires an in-person physical presence during program hours, however due consideration will be given for additional evening and weekend expectations along with the possibility of occasional hours worked offsite.


                        • Compensation will be commensurate based on experience but will be paid hourly, up to 19 hours per week. Time sheets must be kept accurate and submitted prior to each pay period.
                       
                       
                       

                       

                      Director of Ministry & Discipleship

                       

                      Title:                       Director of Ministry and Discipleship

                      Reports to:           Pastor

                      Status/Class:       Full-time; Exempt

                      Job Description:

                      The full-time position of Director of Ministry & Discipleship (DMD) is responsible for assisting the Pastor/Administrator in developing and sustaining a program of Faith Formation for parishioners at all stages of life, creating a parish of life-long learners and disciples from infancy through adulthood. The director will also oversee all liturgical ministries and help provide training and resources to parishioners in these roles, and will also help oversee all liturgical planning.

                      Specific tasks and responsibilities will be delegated by the Pastor/Parochial Administrator. Typical duties include performing or supporting the tasks such as those listed below.

                      Normal Work Days/Hours:  40 hours/week

                       

                      Principal Duties and Responsibilities Include:

                      Ø  Oversee the PREP program

                               Work with the PREP Coordinator in sustaining a program of Religious Education and Formation for parish youth through Confirmation

                               Work with the PREP Coordinator in preparing students for receiving Sacraments of Initiation & Reconciliation

                      Ø  Develop a sustainable program of Ministry to Youth

                               Strategize the development of a sustainable program of Ministry to Youth both on the Middle (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) levels.

                               Develop and maintain a Core Team of adults to assist with this program.

                      Ø  Oversee Adult Faith Formation

                               Coordinate regular Adult Faith Formation (AFF) offerings, including recommending topics and programs; recruiting and training facilitators; and organizing registration information.

                               Oversee and coordinate with OCIA Core Team members in journeying with those who are becoming Catholic.

                               Collaborate with parish clergy and laity in identifying the greatest needs and methods for evangelizing and teaching the Catholic Faith.

                               Create and maintain a yearly budget for AFF programming.

                               Obtain information regarding Archdiocesan programming with regard to AFF.

                               Further promote and monitor the use of “Formed.org” and similar sites to promote access to online Faith Formation programming.


                       

                      Ø  Oversee Liturgy & Ministries

                               Communicate with the coordinators of the various liturgical ministries and oversee online scheduling.

                               Assist clergy with logistics of Parish wide events such as 40 Hours Devotions and Parish Mission, as scheduled.

                               Work with the Coordinator of Sacred Music in planning liturgies.

                      Ø  Oversee Parish Outreach Programming

                               Provide assistance and support to the parish chapter of Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the members of the Vincent’s Hands initiative, and similar groups.

                      Ø  Assist the Pastor in other administrative duties as needed

                               Communicate with the Pastor regarding Sacramental emergency calls.

                               Serve as an ex-officio member of the Pastoral Council.

                               Assist in the Parish Office with day-to-day operations as needed such as: answering phones, answering the door, & assisting parishioners and guests.

                       

                      Necessary Qualifications:

                      The Director of Ministry & Discipleship must have a firm foundation in Catholic theology and liturgy, ensuring that all pastoral instructions and liturgical practices at Saint Vincent de Paul Parish are in accordance with the teachings and liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church. The Director also must have a knowledge of evangelization trends and adult faith formation principles. Additionally:

                      Ø  Possesses the heart of a Missionary Disciple.

                      Ø  Bachelor’s degree in Theology or Religious Education, or at least 5 years’ experience in these or similar fields.

                      Ø  Prior experience working in a Catholic parish or school setting, understanding the dynamic of parish life and the relationship of a parish to the Archdiocese.

                      Ø  Strong written and oral communication skills; interpersonal and public relation skills.

                      Ø  Competence in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Church Office software.

                      Ø  Experience in recruiting and leading volunteers for programming.

                      Ø  Dependable & strong attention to detail.

                      Ø  Exceptional time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines.

                      Ø  Ability to maintain confidentiality & create an atmosphere of trust.

                      Ø  Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with the pastor, parochial vicars, deacons, lay staff, volunteers, and all parishioners.

                      Ø  Must provide (or obtain prior to employment) clearances required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania & the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
